For 16 years the community of St George Orthodox Church has taken great joy in throwing our annual Adirondack Greek Festival. While our parish was founded by Syrian immigrants at the turn of the 20th century, and is now the spiritual home to many from a wide range of nationalities and backgrounds, from the beginning faithful Greek families have made a significant contribution to the life of our church here. This festival provides a great opportunity to celebrate some of the wonderful and enjoyable parts of that culture, a whole range of delicious meals, pastries, and beverages, music and dancing, but especially our common culture of what in Greek is called Φιλοξενία (philoxenia). Translated simply it is "hospitality" but means so much more. Everyone who comes should be received with warmth and care, treated as part of the family, and needless to say, well fed. Whether you've been eating Dolmas (stuffed grapeleaves) and Pastitsio (Pasta layered with meat and cream sauce) since before you could walk or have never before ventured much past hot dogs, it is our community's joy to welcome you.
